Starting a Wellness Program: Four Questions to Ask
Seems like everywhere you turn these days, people are talking about the benefits of a regular Yoga program. Sounds great, but how do you find the time for a regular practice, especially with the busy schedules we all face? That’s where on-site Yoga classes can be the answer. Want to start a program at your workplace? Here is a simple guide to get you started.

Why Start a Corporate Yoga Program?
There are so many reasons to do this, but let’s start with the benefit to the workplace.
Yoga has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, and increase energy, focus, motivation and overall feelings of well-being. This means happier, more productive employees. And for the employees, it means a convenient way to de-stress, re-balance and get healthier, without having to carve out time outside of the office.

How Do You Start A Workplace Yoga Program?
This will depend largely on your company culture.
Often, employees bring forth this idea for implementation, or sometimes it comes from the company leader or leaders. Either way, it is helpful to get a little input from employees regarding their intentions for practicing, and also to surface any pre-conceived notions about Yoga. Then, find an experienced Yoga teacher, who is able to work with many different levels of fitness, and who also has an understanding of the workplace environment. An experienced teacher has the training to make sure your employees are comfortable and safe in class. To introduce the classes, consider scheduling a short session or lunch and learn to introduce some basic concepts and share more of the details and benefits.

Where Will We Practice?
Again, this depends on your workplace. If you have a large conference room that is ideal, however, you can practice anywhere that you can create space for the group.
This may be your break-room, a large office or entryway, a company gym, or cafeteria, even outside on a nice day. Employees can bring their mats to create their personal space during class. Be sure that outside noise can be kept to a minimum. Depending on the size of the class, you may want to offer several smaller classes if space is limited.

When Should We Have The Yoga Classes?
As you may have guessed by now, this depends on your company culture and the nature of the work.
On-site classes generally happen once a week. Classes can be before or at the start of the day, at lunchtime or at the end of the work day. Before starting the class it is good to get feedback from employees on this. Classes can be 30, 45, or 60 minutes long.
